Writing...Writing... Writing....

Writer: ReagieReagie

Hi Everyone :D Does anyone else struggle with writers block? It's hell when you have people waiting on you for the latest chapter and its even worse when you have tons to do as well as update each book :/ It just feels like I'm writing constantly, once one thing is done I must move onto the next. With the UK on lockdown, theoretically, I should have so much time on my hands that writers block shouldn't come even close to being as big a problem as it used to be, but in reality it's exactly the same if not worse now. With assignments that are late needing to be handed in, current assignments with their due dates getting closer and only a week and a bit left to get my University Portfolio finished and sent off - the stress has never seemed so real. Today, I thought I'd leave you guys a few tips and tricks of mine that I use to get over writers block :D

Writers block tips:

- Don't force it!!! I can't stress it enough that, for me at least, forcing myself to write and come up with ideas usually does the opposite of coming up with ideas - in fact you're more likely to tart criticising your current ideas by doing this - Do what makes you happy! As someone who is very overly-critical of myself and way too worried about what others think, I usually end up making things harder for myself by appeasing my readers; sure this is important, but if you aren't enjoying what you're writing you'll feel less motivated to write and will struggle with finding what to add to each chapter. (Your audience will change and suit itself to the content) - Have a schedule I have made countless schedules for my book updates but usually within a couple weeks (if that) I begin to slip back into my old ways... and this is okay! Give yourself a basic outline, maybe you decide you'll upload one week and give yourself the next week to focus on writing - you don't have to explicitly say that'll you'll upload on a specific day each week - Fit it to your own daily routine/schedule - it'll then become easier to find time to do everything in your day and will also give yourself time to find inspiration :D - Going on Hiatus is okay :D Going on Hiatus is okay :) Sometimes stress gets too much or we can't find time to do everything we need to in a day meaning we have to drop some of the less important tasks. If this is the case, let your readers know. They'll understand. Sometimes we all need time to ourselves where we aren't constantly working. I have personally had a few hiatuses, especially during peak times like school exams. Just let your audience know. It doesn't have to be a short hiatus, take however long you need for yourself :D

- Find something that helps you get inspired

This is very important! Without inspiration there are no ideas, and without ideas there is no content! In terms of finding inspiration, many a time I have taken myself on a short walk with just my phone and a pair of earphones. The time to myself where I can think without worrying about anything are the times that I have the most inspiration. Whether it be going out with friends, going on a walk by yourself, a trip somewhere or just certain music track, find that thing that really inspires you to come up with ideas. Giving yourself that time to think is really beneficial and you'll finding yourself coming up with ideas in no time! - Struggling to come up with characters?? Use people around you for inspiration! That guy you just walked past suit how you imagine your character to look like? Use him as an outline, describe him and give him a name! This tip is one I stick to for most of my books! I frequently ask my friends whether I can use them as an outline for my character, whether it be a carbon copy, describing them and giving the character a different name or even just using their mannerisms and personality as a basis. This makes character building and writing character biographies so much easier! (it's a cheat way of cheating the character process hehe) I really hope that this post is helpful for some of you :D If there are any ways that you use and want to share, go ahead!
